Pray for Peace

We belong to the Kingdom of God. Paul wrote that our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20). Meanwhile, we live in a country where we enjoy many freedoms. This is the place that we call home!

So, it is with concern and sadness how I saw the events in the Capitol yesterday. I firmly believe that as a society we can do better. Especially those of us who call ourselves Christians are called to be and set an example of obedience, honesty and reconciliation.

My prayer is that as we start a new process in the political area we can bring forth our faith experience for a time of peace and reconciliation, a time of peace and justice for all. And as we sing that old hymn “America the Beautiful” (UMH 696). Let us pray that our country can be “a place where God mend thine ev’ry flaw, confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law.”

I invite you to pray for our country, for a peaceful transition of power, as well as the role of our church in the middle of a society that is looking for peace.
